Christian Aid Report 2017

About Us

Christian Aid is an international development organisation that insists the world can and must be changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty and inequality.

Christian Aid is a faith-based agency, yet we operate on the basis of need, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, caste, gender or nationality.  We have more than 70 year’s experience of working in partnership to address the root causes of poverty through integrated development and humanitarian programming, policy and advocacy work.  We deliver in 39 countries through civil society, government sector partnerships.

We believe that local people in poor countries are the real experts on poverty.  We therefore support more than700 partners, local organisations that are best placed to understand the causes of poverty and how to fight it.

Through our partners, we respond where the need is greatest.  Much more information about the work of Christian Aid can be found on its website,

Christian Aid week 2017 is 14th – 20th May

‘Everyone should have a safe place to call home’

This year, one of the problems that Christian Aid is highlighting is the plight of the refugee crisis in Europe.  One story is about Nejebar, who fled violence in Afganistan, but her hopes of a safe, peaceful future for her family feel like a distant dream.  They’ve spent the last 6 months, when they thought it would be 10 days, living in a tent in Greece, huddled together against the wind and rain.

Last year St. Gabriels raised £205 plus £13.50 in gift aid, which was a really good effort and many thanks to all who helped to raise this amount.  Can I call on you this year to continue with our efforts to raise money for people like Nejebar to find and enjoy their ‘safe place to call home’.
